When large vehicles exit construction sites onto carriageways, their lower speed can impact the flow of traffic. While this usually only results in the slowing of passing vehicles, the risk of an accident is increased.
Our Works Egress Warning solution warns motorists approaching a particular traffic management access/exit area that a potentially slower works vehicle will be re-joining the main carriageway, and to prepare to slow down, or change lanes to accommodate the vehicle.
This solution comprises of sensors positioned at a works exit point to detect the size of the vehicle and speed. A VMS, connected to the sensors, is positioned approximately 200 yards prior to the exit point. When the sensors are activated, the VMS automatically shows a message to warn motorists that a slower vehicle will be joining the carriageway.
The works egress sensors are powered by batteries housed within the casing, along with a solar panel to guarantee uninterrupted operation all year round. Likewise, the VMS features sealed-system batteries, along with a high-performance solar panel โ able to operate year-round.
Users are able to easily activate any custom message on the VMS, which can be accessed remotely if any changes or are needed. The system itself takes just minutes to set up, and offers an increase in safety and efficiency when managing traffic within a site access point.
The works egress solution is part of our ITS (intelligent transport solutions) range - a collection of connected technologies that make traffic management smarter, safer, and more efficient. These include journey timeย - a smart system for VMS that automatically calculates journey times through traffic management schemes or via a diversion, and overheight detection โ sensors that communicate with a VMS to warn high sided vehicles of a low bridge or tunnel ahead.
The Works Egress VMS solution is available for hire across the UK.
